Successful FrogPlay Trial for The Chorister School

The Chorister School

The Chorister School is an independent day and boarding prep school for boys and girls from 3-13 years. Having taken up a free trial of FrogPlay ahead of school closures in March, we spoke with Deputy Head, Andrew Chandler to see how they have been getting on….

How did the Chorister School first hear about FrogPlay?

Having received an email about the free trial, we made the decision to give FrogPlay a try as part of our strategy to deliver limited core subject provision for our children during lockdown. Our school decided to start the Summer term on the 1st of June in the hope that some children would be able to return (like they have), so we needed something to keep them ticking over in the interim.

What attracted the school to this particular solution?

FrogPlay appealed to us as it covered a wide range of subjects, as well as content that would work for the 3-13-year olds that we teach.

How did the school get everyone onboard with FrogPlay in such a short space of time?

We were able to “train” the children very quickly as we had a couple of days ahead of shutdown. It was a case of setting them up in cohorts with school iPads, getting them to login and carry out practice tasks to iron out any issues.

With positive signs of high engagement so early in proceedings, what do you think students like most about using FrogPlay?

They love that there’s a leaderboard and that they can “earn” points to play games and upgrade their avatars.

Do you think FrogPlay has helped the school to provide teaching and learning support during lockdown?

Very much so. As lockdown has progressed, children have become bored at home and so have enjoyed being set tasks to do by the teachers that they know. They have loved being able to see simple feedback too. We also allowed them to use the messaging facility as a way they could be in touch with some of us (as opposed to their parents’ line of communication via school email).

How will you be using FrogPlay once pupils return to the classroom environment?

Some of us are using FrogPlay alongside our remote lessons at the moment. Children can do timed starters and then logout of our face to face platforms and use Frog quizzes that we have adapted for reinforcement. Very useful as the teachers don’t have to try and mark these but they can still help with any questions the children may be struggling with. FrogPlay is a really useful tool to inform day to day planning, it is saving us time, especially as we’re all snowed under adapting to new ways of teaching and learning.

The cohorts that are in school are using Frog tasks on their iPads in the classroom. It is proving especially effective for those lessons where we are streaming the teacher, who may be in a different supervision “bubble” or working from home due to shielding.
